This collection consists of one bound volume and two typescripts transcribed from the included sound tape of an oral history interview with Lawrence. The interview was conducted by Alan Cherry on 25 February 1985 for the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies, Brigham Young University, as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project.

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
